The Environment

Our Environment
At Octave Homes, we understand the impact house building has on the environment - both in the immediate vicinity of any development and also in the places used to source the building materials used.
We are committed to responsible, sustainable development that benefits the local community and the wider environment. This commitment is demonstrated at every stage of our building process.
- Before building starts, we ensure all our sites are cleared responsibly - recycling where possible and disposing of any waste and hazardous materials safely.
- We use sustainable resources where possible, and identify materials manufactured using lower carbon emission methods.
- We actively seek to source materials locally: this both benefits the local economy and reduces the negative effects of transportation over long distances.
- We adopt energy saving techniques throughout both the construction process and in our finished homes. You will benefit from maximised natural light sources in living areas, high insulation levels, low energy heating systems and low voltage lighting. Water is conserved by installing showers in bathrooms and dual flush toilets.
The construction industry as a whole has stated its aim of moving towards the government target of all new homes to be "zero carbon" by 2016. At Octave, we aim to achieve this target before then. As a current measure of our environmental performance, we use the Regulation BRE Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) to assess all our new developments and ensure that each building scores at least level 3-4. We will regularly review our targets as new policy emerges.
